Tip: Interview Industry Experts for Website Traffic

Content generation is at the core of any website content promotion and blog marketing strategy. Not just any content but content that can touch 100,000+ views on YouTube, or on your blog, content which attracts links and blog mentions and content which goes viral. That is the holy grail of content marketing.

However, easier said than done, there always comes a time when one runs out of ideas for content. So this where we can highly recommend to you the Strategy of 'Interviewing Industry Experts'.

Why Interview Industry Experts:
Well firstly it gives your brand an association with the experts name.
Secondly, this strategy can be taken as a sophisticated form of baiting. How? Imagine you post a video interview with a IT consultant on your channel. And the interview garners decent views. The consultant would now be obliged to recommend this piece of content whenever he is networking for himself. Whether he is at a conference event, or a

The Strategy Itself Explained: Find as many industry experts, niche experts, consultants, mentors, coaches and trainers to interview. Contact them and tell them about your company and about yourself. And ask them if you could conduct a short 20 minute, 30 minute or a 1 hour interview on a common topic of discussion.

Then these interviews should be used as content and uploaded to your website, blog, YouTube channel etc. The content in turn will help generate visitors to your website.

The interview can be a video interview over Skype or WebEx or a seminar or a webinar. Or, the interview can be an audio interview which you can conduct in a restaurant or a conference room.

How to find Industry Experts to interview: Well the first thing is first, the more domain authority and more known you are in a niche the easier it becomes to approach top notch industry experts. If you are relatively less known then it's better to start with more industry experts who are more approachable.

1. Find experts on LinkedIn. Avoid contacting C-Suite level executives such as CEOs, CIOs, CTOs, CFOs. Instead connect with consultants, business coaches, mentors and trainers who are more likely to respond to your contact requests.

2. Search for Experts and market leaders using Twitter Bio's. Send them a short and simple tweet asking them if you can interview them for your next podcast or for your YouTube channel. Follower Monk is an excellent tool to search people's bio.

3. Direct email contact:  Drafting a email that attracts a response is the first step. One can then visit the website and contact the expert using the Contact Us page. Many blog owners decide not to publish their emails for privacy reasons. In some cases you can still find the contact address on the About Me page.

4. Directories & Forums: So let's say you have a blog on Ethical Hacking. So the next best thing would be to go to local listing directory such as Qelp, Yelp, Yahoo Local Listing and Google's local listing and search for Ethical Hacking experts.

5. Comments Section: This is a less used but an equally effective networking strategy. And I have seen this work for many people in our industry which is transcription services. For example if you SEO MOZs blog, you see many people commenting there. Their names or their company names are usually hyperlinked to their website or blog or twitter profile. You can visit their website and shoot them an email saying that I say your comment on so and so blog and would like to would like to discuss an opportunity to interview them over Skype or telephone for a interesting topic.

Drilling Out the Value from the Interviews
1. Conduct a Video Interview through Skype or in person. The Skype video should be uploaded onto as many Video sharing platforms (YouTube, Vimeo and a host of others) as possible.
2. The interview should be transcribed and the interview transcript be placed on a blog.
3. Compile the interview transcripts into an Ebook. Give free or paid access to Ebook to your Newsletter subscribers. Even better idea is to publish the Ebook on Issue, Scribd, Kindle and Itunes Book Store Ebook publishing sites.
4. Showcase the success of the existing interview. Based on this you can attract more participants to interview.

The 'Interview an Expert' Strategy is a Highly Cost Effective one. It helps you to connect with industry experts. It helps you to build your network. It will help you to generate content. And you will never run out of content ideas for your website. Plus it is free. It's a win-win situation for both the parties.
